Interested in joining MALETS?

Membership fee

We ask for a one-off joining fee of $10. This helps us to cover dollar costs in the Australian economy, such as bank fees, printing, the cost of running trading days and other administrative costs.

The joining fee can be paid in person at a trading day or by deposit to the MALETS bank account.

Membership conditions

  • MALETS is an association of members each of whom has an account in the system. The combined set of accounts forms the Transactions Database of the system. The MALETS Directory is a second database through which members exchange information about goods and services to support trading.
  • The information in the Transactions Database and the Directory are open to all members, and members agree that the Transaction Manager may disclose details of a member’s offers and requests, their recent trading and account balance, to any other member.
  • Members agree to abide by and support the aims, objectives and rules stated in MALETS Guidelines and to do their best to supply goods and services that they have outlined in their “offers” to other members when in debt, including debt for account fees to MALETS for keeping the databases.
  • Members authorise the MALETS Transaction Manager to maintain on their behalf records and accounts of their trading activities; to transfer pods from their trading account to the trading account of member/s stated on their written authority; and to charge their accounts with periodic system account fees, or charges based on turnover.
  • Members accept that MALETS has the right, at any time to decline any transaction, request or offer considered inappropriate; and subject to the procedures in the constitution, to revoke membership if members act in a manner prejudicial to the interests of MALETS.
  • Members are responsible for determining the value, condition and quality of all goods and services they offer or trade through the system, and that any taxation liabilities that may accrue from their trading activities under national laws are their responsibility.
  • In accepting responsibility for their own trading, members acknowledge that the MALETS committee is only responsible for maintaining the Transactions Database and Directory to facilitate trading between members who themselves determine the extent of their trading.
  • Members agree not to make a claim against MALETS or members of the committee for any loss, damage or injury suffered as a result of their membership of MALETS and that MALETS disclaims such liability.

Join in person

MALETS is a people-based organization and we love to encourage face to face interactions. The best way to join is to come along to one of our trading days, where you can meet members of the group and learn about how MALETS operates. We have paper membership forms on hand at every trading day which you can fill in on the spot or take home to complete at your leisure.

Join on line

If you’re not able to make it to a trading day and would prefer to join on line, then please fill out the details below. It may take us a few days to get back to you as this website is monitored by volunteers. Please check your emails (including your junk email folder) for further communication from MALETS.
