MALETS is a grass roots community of more than 580 account holders based in the Mount Alexander Shire. Members can exchange goods using the group’s own local currency, the “pod”. The group runs weekly trading days, every Saturday morning of the year in Castlemaine, where you can find a wide range of seasonal products from home gardens and kitchens being exchanged. This produce comes from the best possible source, that is, the soil of local peoples’ kitchen gardens and the skills of home cooks, and incurs the lowest possible food miles.
MALETS also supports the exchange of services. Members get access to a directory showing the skills and services available within the group.
