Ilka is a weaver and natural dyer who taught at RMIT and the Handweaver’s Guild for many years before localising her offerings here in Castlemaine. She teaches Handloom Weaving courses (from introductory to advanced), Inkle and Backstrap Weaving, Natural Dyeing with plants and Braided Rag Rug workshops.
A generous teacher, Ilka’s popular classes reflect her love of the handmade, her contemporary use of traditional making methods and the principles of sustainability. She is building a local textile network from growers to garments and hosts regular gatherings for fibre folk.
Ilka is MALETS member number 456. She accepts MALETS Pods in exchange for all her classes. Members can use pods for part or all of a course at an exchange of 1 pod = 1 dollar.
